Miko's World

Miko's World is a NEW lively and colourful animated children's property aimed at 5 to 6 year old children. Miko's World is an original concept created by London based British artist Prema Sundararajan.

Programme Summary

Miko's World aims to familiarise children with famous places, be it a monument, a stunning piece of architecture, a famous waterfall, or even another planet!

The star of the show is Miko, a talented, charming and fun-loving little girl who loves to paint! She has an adventurous, warmhearted spirit and her most favourite thing of all is to travel the world and paint, so she can show new paintings in her own art gallery; Gallery Miko.

Miko's World in no way uses cultural stereotypes. This is NOT a programme seeking to educate children about different cultures. The subject of each of Miko's paintings provides factual educational value and is the basis for a story that seeks above all to entertain its audience through fun and laughter.

Sid and Beep are the two other main characters of Miko's World, who always accompany Miko on her painting trips. Sid is Miko's 'sidekick' dog-like best friend. He is impulsive and naughty and this sometimes gets him into trouble when he suffers his comeuppance. Miko always helps Sid or makes him feel better, as she is an eternal optimist and loves him.

Beep is Miko's trusted magical scooter who takes Miko and Sid to REAL and exciting places all over the world. Miko never knows exactly where Beep will take her. She is happy to simply put her trust in Beep and loves the excitement of not knowing where she will end up! Beep is like no ordinary scooter; he has the magical ability to 'zoom' in and out of far distant lands at lightning speeds.

There are two secondary characters in Miko's World: Zool is Miko's ever-so-cool mechanic, who is there to ensure Beep is always in tip-top shape for each and every trip; and Bu is Miko's meticulous gallery assistant and picture framer.

There is plenty for children to identify with as the places are REAL destinations around our world but at the same time there is fantasy to feed children's imagination provided by e.g. the magical Beep and by the stories e.g. a carousel horse that gallops away with Sid on it in an episode set in New York's Central Park.

Miko and Sid's adventures across the globe will inspire, educate and entertain children each and every time.

Miko's blog and the virtual Gallery Miko

At the end of each episode, Miko hangs her new finished painting in Gallery Miko, her own art gallery. She also writes a blog on her gallery website relating to the painting she has just painted. Both Miko's blogs and a virtual online version of Gallery Miko will be accessible on the Miko's World website, once the programme airs. This will enable viewers to read the blogs Miko writes and to see the very paintings she paints each and every episode.

The Look of the Show

Miko's World is a visually beautiful and stylish world full of colour, vitality and fun imagery. The feel is pure, unfussy and minimal with pockets of detail giving the show a visual serenity. The look and feel of the show takes after the original paintings of the artist Prema Sundararajan, the creator of the show. The star of the show, Miko, is wonderfully descriptive with her spherical shaped body, her striking bright red outfit and jet black hair. Sid is quirky looking with white jagged teeth, one leg in a cast and a cheeky disposition while Beep, Miko's magical scooter has a 'retro' appeal.

The Tone of the Show & Comedy

The tone of Miko's World is upbeat, funny and magical. Miko is fun-loving, happy and an eternal optimist. Comedy including physical comedy plays a prominent role in the show and is key to educating the audience, making learning, fun and entertaining. Humour is provided by Sid's naughtiness and foolery ('sid-del-leyness' as coined by Miko) e.g. his attempts at straightening the Leaning Tower of Pisa using a body builder and a herd of elephants, amongst other things. Sid's antics get him constantly into trouble. Whenever Sid is in a pickle, is afraid or gets his comeuppance his ears start to flap frenetically, his eyes spin and his teeth grind, providing added visual comedy. There are also magical and quirky aspects to the show providing imaginative and fun entertainment e.g. Miko being serenaded underwater by a full orchestra of musical fish at the Great Barrier Reef and Nessie making an appearance at Loch Ness.
